Nationalistic Pride

As a Christian should, the Militant Pacifist struggles with "nationalistic pride." Remember "pride" that most deadly of the seven deadly sins.

The struggle is exacerbated when he reads an article like the one linked in the posting title above (California Wines beat the French -- Again!). It makes it difficult (as an American) not to be "smug." Ciao!

To Quote a Nazi

Elihu (the "friend" of Job) said "Great men are not always wise (Job 32:9)." Oh how true! Many of the great men of our day seem not to have mastered even the most elementary of concepts.

But hear the wisdom of the captured Nazi Reichsmarschall Hermann Wilhelm Göring - wisdom uttered in a Nuremberg jail cell.


Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger.
